The Most Badass tundra Roof Light MOunt Ever Made

If you own a 2007-2021 Toyota Tundra, this is the most badass roof light mount you can buy. Period.

Low profile, sleek design and perfectly balanced. There is no other roof light mount like this outside of a custom commissioned show vehicle.

Baja Designs sent me a lighting package that included their badass 50” 8 light XL Sport Linkable LED Bar. They didn’t have a mount available for the 2nd/2.5 gen Tundra, so I had to source my own. I looked online and bought several mounts that looked halfway decent. Needless to say, none of them ended up working out. Some just straight up didn’t fit, others were so flimsy, they went straight in the trash.

The decision was made to develop a high quality mount that would make Baja Designs proud and be worthy of one of the best ½ ton trucks ever made, the 2nd gen/2.5 gen Tundra.

After unsuccessfully trying out several other mounts, 3 key non-negotiable requirements were determined:

  • Stability

    • most of the other roof light mounts used a single piece of flimsy bent steel that rattled and vibrated

    • this mount needed to survive prerunning, jumping and hold a steady beam over bumps

  • Functional Low Mounting Position

    • the others sat too high, they were taller than the roof and looked super dorky

    • this mount could not add to overall vehicle height and reduce overhead parking garage clearance

    • must maintain windshield wiper function & proper clearance (believe it or not, there are mounts that don’t)

  • Badass Design

    • this is subjective, but nothing else available looked great to me

    • this mount had to be tough yet sleek and complement the Tundra’s good looks, not distract from them

The first part of development was nailing down the location of the XL Linkable in relation to the Tundra’s roof. This was done with a lot of measuring, testing various templates, adjusting and mocking up 3D printed brackets to get the light bar perfectly positioned.

Once the position of the light bar was determined, I began development of the rough form and transferred to steel plate.

Then I locked down the mounting constraints and started modeling in CAD. I also decided on a cool billet aluminum mounting base to bolt everything together because cheesy bent tabs on a curved surface suck. The billet aluminum base has a slight curvature that conforms to the Tundra’s curved roof channels. This ensures that the the load is spread evenly over maximum surface area.

Plus it just looks expensive and badass like a $1,000 custom piece usually only found on $500,000+ luxury prerunners.

Had some prototypes lasercut, bent and CNC milled. Threaded inserts were pressed in and assembled.

Initial component fit-check went great. Everything went together as intended and the vision was starting to take shape.

Threw a coat of paint on the 1st prototype and bolted it up, perfect fit!

Also passed the roof height check, no added height to reduce overhead clearance when entering parking garages.

Wired up the XL Linkable light bar, the light that these put out is amazing!

Tested on and off road for over 2.5 years, zero issues.

Final assembled product

Each mounting bracket also has a wire management loop to keep the wiring harness secure and tucked away, out of sight.

Every kit comes with mounting hardware and specialty tools & supplies for a proper installation.

Only additional tools required for installation:

- power drill w/ 6mm or 1/4" drill bit
- ratchet w/ 10mm socket
- masking tape (optional but recommended)

The 2007-2021 Tundra Roof Light Bar Mounting System was developed specifically for the Baja Designs 8 light XL Sport Linkable LED Light Bar.

It may be adapted to other low profile curved LED lightbars that are close to 50” in width, but the Baja Designs is highly recommended.
